    Cost: $75 - $710

AAC&U's 2019 Annual Meeting will explore ways of elevating the voices of administrators, faculty, practitioners, and students in the public narrative about the value of higher education. Across the nation, the media, employers, state and national legislators, and community members in rural, urban, and suburban areas have questioned higher education's value for today's students and, at times, for society at large. The need is clear for higher education to reclaim the narrative and articulate our role in ensuring that all students achieve success in life, work, and citizenship and that American democracy continues to thrive

SCCTE 2019--No More Faking: Authentic Literacy, Meaningful Learning

Kiawah Island East Beach Conference Center, One Sanctuary Beach Drive, Kiawah Island, SC

    Cost: $150 - $225

Students see reading and writing as temporary answers to temporary problems, necessary only for tests or classes. Students mechanically enter classes, take notes, practice skills, and complete assignments they will discard and never remember. Students fake their way through assignments, tests, tasks - and promptly forget the literacy skills they practiced. Reading and writing, like many other aspects of their lives, is just something else they can leave behind. Literacy is required for life, and we know that our students need authentic literacy experiences to make reading and writing real - and meaningful - for each student. Our 2019 conference theme is Authentic Literacy, Meaningful Learning. It is time to focus on how to show students that reading and writing experiences mean something beyond the score at the top of the page and a letter in the grade book.

The Forum on Education Abroad 15th Annual Conference

Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, 1550 Court Pl, Denver, Denver, CO

    Cost: $45 - $775

We find ourselves living in a time of growing fear of the unfamiliar, as we experience significant global political, economic, and demographic shifts. Simultaneously, international education is permeated by its own unique tensions. We encounter competing voices of students and parents, of faculty and staff, and of colleagues in the home office and on site. These voices are often joined by competing priorities when it comes to resources and budgets, institutional missions and goals, as well as issues of health, safety, security, and risk management. The goal of The Forum's 15th Annual Conference is to create a space for shared dialogue to explore the pressing issues of our field for today and for the future. As education evolves, as demographics shift, as resources are redirected, as technology advances, and the world changes, so must our field. Let's explore these issues and listen to all voices at the table.

During its "Development Decade" of the 1960s, the UN advocated education as a driver of economic growth. But, over the past fifty years, questions have been asked with increasing urgency about what kind of development is promulgated through literacy, skills training, and formal schooling. What is the longer term cost of an education that promises - and sometimes delivers - productivity, industrialization, modernity and consumption? Who pays this price? What are the larger costs? And with what ultimate consequence for the planet?
