If I successfully complete the Reading Master’s program, will I be qualified to take the Reading Specialist Praxis exam? I know the program doesn’t come with certification, but I’m looking for a program that will enable me to take the exam. Thanks!

I am interested in your Reading Master’s. I already have an MA and M.Ed and what I am searching for is a program that will allow me to become a reading specialist without having to do yet another Master’s Degree. Is this something that can be accomplished through Concordia? I live in Virginia

    • admissions says:

Anna, We do not offer individual courses; however, the Master’s with the concentration in Reading is only 11 courses and will be accomplished in 58 weeks! Thank you.

Good morning! I am interested in the Curriculum & Instruction: Reading track, but need 5 classes to add a Gifted Endorsement to my current El. Ed. (1-6) FL teaching certificate. Do you think there is a way to incorporate the 5 gifted classes into your curriculum?
    Thank you, Cara Middleton

    • admissions says:

Cara, Please have your state review the Reading concentration courses, so they can confirm if these classes will be accepted for the endorsement. Thank you.

I’ve seen a lot of questions regarding certification. Are these educators looking for certification to become certified teacher? Can you expand your comments, please?

    • admissions says:

Blanca, I know sometimes it may get confusing. Some educators are looking for licensure/certification to become a teacher in the public sector, others may be looking for licensure/certification for a specific degree. Many educators are looking strictly for a Master’s of Education and that is what we offer. Thank you.

  7. Kelly says:

I am interested in a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Reading Instruction. From there, I plan to take the Michigan State test for the K-12 reading endorsement. I believe Concordia can support this goal while having everything be on-line. Have I read the information correctly? If so, would I be allowed to work at my own pace or am I required to follow a semester by semester plan? Thank you so much for reading.

    • admissions says:

Kelly, Please check with the Department of Education for your state to ensure you understand the requirements for achieving a reading endorsement. The program is structured, so you will need to take one class every 5 weeks. Thank you.

  8. Gretchen says:

I am looking to start a Master’s program, but also need 6 credits to renew my WI teaching license. Will the classes I take in the Master of Education program count towards my license renewal?

    • admissions says:

Gretchen, Please call us and we will send you the program of your choice, course by course, so you can submit the program document to your district or Department of Education for approval. Thank you.

  9. mayet says:

So if the Master’s Degree doesn’t include certification, what will a graduate get after she completes the course?

    • admissions says:

Mayet, You will receive a Master of Education diploma with your concentration of choice in one-year! Many educators do not need certification because they are already teaching or are educators in the private sector. Educators that need certification take this program and get certification separately. Thank you.
